Sports Betting Traffic Sources in 2026: Pop, Push and Zero-Click for Sportsbook Offers

Sports betting is the most calendar-driven vertical in affiliate marketing. Casino demand is fairly steady. Betting demand spikes before kickoff, collapses after the final whistle, and shifts GEO by GEO depending on which leagues are playing that week.

That changes how you buy traffic. The right source matters, but when you buy it matters just as much. This guide covers which traffic sources fit sportsbook offers, how each format behaves around match days, how to plan a campaign around the fixture calendar, and a 7-day test plan for launching a new betting GEO.

What makes betting traffic different from casino

Before picking a source, it helps to know what you're optimizing for:

  • Demand is event-driven. Interest builds in the days before a big match and peaks in the hours before kickoff. A campaign that runs flat 24/7 spends a lot of money in dead hours.

  • Offers are usually first-deposit based. Most sportsbook deals pay on a first-time deposit (FTD), as a CPA, RevShare or hybrid. Registrations are cheap; deposits are what you get paid for, so track them separately.

  • Local relevance wins. A bettor in Brazil cares about the Brasileirão, a bettor in India cares about cricket. Generic "bet now" creatives lose to ones that name the league or the match.

  • Rules vary sharply by country. Sports betting is licensed, restricted or banned depending on the GEO, and offers often accept only specific regions. Check the offer's allowed GEOs and our iGaming regional rules before you set targeting.

The main traffic sources for sports betting

Popunder: volume and fast testing

Popunder opens the advertiser's page in a new window behind the one the visitor is browsing. It's cheap per impression, it scales quickly, and it's the fastest way to find out whether a GEO and offer combination works at all.

For betting, pop works best with a short pre-lander that names an upcoming match or a welcome offer, then sends the visitor to registration. Expect lower intent than search, so judge it on cost per FTD, not on registration rate. Our popunder guide covers bidding and placement basics, and popunder ad format explains how it runs on ActiveRevenue.

Best for: new GEO tests, broad match-day pushes, collecting placement data quickly.

Push notifications: timing and re-engagement

Push delivers a short clickable message with an icon and image to subscribed users. Two things make it a strong fit for betting: the message format suits match hooks ("Derby tonight: get your welcome bonus before kickoff"), and you can time delivery to the hours before an event.

Creative fatigue sets in fast with push, so rotate creatives per match rather than per week. Push ads and floating push are both available, and the push ads guide covers creative and bidding.

Best for: match-specific hooks, dayparted campaigns, mobile-heavy GEOs.

Zero-click (domain redirect): the highest-intent option

Zero-click traffic comes from people typing a domain into the browser, often a mistyped or expired domain, and being redirected straight to your offer with no ad to click. When the typed domain is related to sports or betting, the visitor is already in the mindset you want.

Volumes are smaller and more specific than pop, so it suits buyers who already know which GEOs and keywords convert. Start with the zero-click guide and the zero-click ad format page.

Best for: scaling proven GEOs, high-intent sportsbook offers, buyers who want less creative work.

Telegram: community-driven betting audiences

Sports communities, tipster channels and match chats are big on Telegram in many betting GEOs. Telegram ads reach those audiences directly, but approval rules are stricter than on pop or push, so check what the offer and the placement allow first. See Telegram ads and the Telegram ads guide.

Best for: GEOs with active sports communities, tipster-style angles that comply with the offer's terms.

Plan campaigns around the fixture calendar

This is where betting buyers make or lose most of their money.

  1. Build a two-week fixture sheet per GEO. List the big domestic league matches, continental competitions and any local sports (cricket, basketball, MMA) for each country you target, with kickoff times in local time.

  2. Raise bids in the run-up, not after. Pre-match interest builds over the days before a big event and peaks in the final hours. Schedule bid increases and push sends for that window, and pull back after kickoff unless the offer promotes live betting.

  3. Daypart by local time. Match days in South America, Europe and Asia land at very different hours. Set schedules per GEO campaign instead of one global schedule.

  4. Swap creatives per event. A creative that names tonight's match is stale tomorrow. Prepare two or three creatives per major fixture in advance.

  5. Watch the weekend-to-midweek rhythm. Many leagues play mostly at weekends, with continental competitions midweek. Your spend curve should follow that rhythm, not a flat daily budget.

Track first deposits, not just registrations

Sportsbooks often pay on FTD, sometimes with a minimum deposit amount. If you only track registrations, you'll optimize toward cheap sign-ups who never deposit.

  • Ask the affiliate manager for separate postback events for registration and first deposit, and send both to your tracker.

  • Pass the FTD event back to the traffic source so bidding and placement decisions are based on deposits.

  • Expect a lag: deposits can arrive hours or days after the click, especially when a bettor signs up early for a weekend match. Don't cut placements on day one data.

Our conversion tracking setup covers the basics, and the CPA vs CPC guide helps you choose a bid model.

A 7-day test plan for a new betting GEO

  • Day 1: Set up. Confirm the offer's allowed GEOs and terms, check local rules, set up registration and FTD postbacks, and build your fixture sheet for the coming week.

  • Day 2–3: Broad pop test. Launch popunder with two pre-landers (match hook vs welcome bonus hook), mobile and desktop split, bids at the suggested level. Collect placement data.

  • Day 3–4: Add push before the first big fixture. Launch push with match-specific creatives, scheduled for the run-up window in local time.

  • Day 5: First cut. Blacklist placements that spent meaningfully with no registrations. Keep anything with registrations even if FTDs haven't arrived yet.

  • Day 6: Add zero-click. If registrations and early FTDs look healthy, add a zero-click campaign on the same GEO to capture higher-intent visitors.

  • Day 7: Review on cost per FTD. Compare sources on cost per first deposit, not CTR or registration rate. Scale the winner into the next fixture window, and pause what doesn't pay back.

Common mistakes that burn betting budgets

  • Running flat budgets all week. You overspend on quiet days and run out of budget before the big match.

  • Using one global creative. League and language relevance matter more in betting than in almost any other vertical.

  • Targeting GEOs the offer doesn't accept. Traffic from restricted regions doesn't pay, and it can get your offer access pulled.

  • Judging too early. Deposits lag clicks. Give placements enough time and data before you cut them.

  • Ignoring traffic quality. Watch for placements with lots of clicks and no on-page activity, and use the platform's filtering and your tracker's bot checks.
